Old-school in the best and worst ways: extremely protective and confidence-inspiring in ugly weather, but noticeably heavier and bulkier than newer ultralight rain systems. There is still a place for rain gear designed around durability first rather than spreadsheet weight.
Feels genuinely protective in sustained bad weather.
Tough enough that I'm not afraid of brush or abuse.
Better suited to extended ugly conditions than ultralight emergency shells.
Tradeoff: Heavy and bulky compared with modern backpacking-oriented shells.
