These earned their place in late-season use because the important job is not simply adding warmth; it is managing the moisture created on the hike in so feet stay warmer once movement stops. GTW testing spans roughly 20 cold-weather days across three seasons in Maine, Montana, Idaho, and winter work, including repeated long sits after hard movement. They are intentionally specialized. Mild-weather hunters should use a lighter sock rather than trying to make one heavyweight option cover the whole season.
