Overview
A 10-inch cold-weather pac boot with an oil-tanned leather upper, rubber lower, removable wool/polypropylene felt liner, insulated footbed, Air-Grip outsole and steel shank. Designed for low-activity winter hunting; the rubber lower is waterproof while the leather upper is water resistant.
WHAT MATTERS
Layered insulation
A removable felt liner works with insulation inside the rubber lower and an additional felt footbed.
Removable liner
The wool/polypropylene liner can be removed for drying; Hoffman recommends rotating spare liners for consecutive-day use.
Repairable bottom
Hoffman can replace the rubber bottom, extending service when the leather upper remains suitable.
Steel arch support
An integrated steel shank supports the arch inside the rubber lower.
Air-Grip tread
The boot uses Hoffman’s Air-Grip outsole. No independent ice-slip safety certification is claimed.
Waterproof lower, water-resistant upper
Hoffman describes its pac rubber bottoms as waterproof and its leather uppers as water resistant; leather treatment and seam sealing can improve resistance.
Handmade leather upper
The oil-tanned leather upper is handcrafted in Kellogg, Idaho. This does not assert every component is US-made.
GTW TAKE
“
A serviceable pac boot for long cold sits
The 10-inch Mountaineer is worth considering when staying warm through low-activity hunts matters more than covering fast miles. Its removable felt liner, insulated rubber lower and repairable bottom support a practical cold-weather system: dry or rotate liners between days and leave enough room for an appropriate sock. The key wet-weather limit is the leather shaft. Hoffman calls the rubber lower waterproof but the upper only water resistant, so this is not a full-height wading boot. This take is based on manufacturer construction and care guidance, with corroborating published 10-inch use, not GTW field testing.
Best-fit role: late-season stand, glassing and predator sessions with modest approaches; no universal temperature guarantee.
Removable liners improve overnight drying and can be rotated on consecutive hunt days.
Keep leather treated and do not treat the 10-inch nominal height as a waterproof wading depth.
Check fit and actual stand-step, pedal or stirrup clearance; exact net weight is not published.
Orderability can include production time: manufacturer currently lists about one week for winter pac boots.
