The Kiln is the most versatile piece in the First Lite base-layer system because it balances warmth, moisture control, and movement across a broad range of conditions. It is the layer I would start with when the day may shift between active and stationary, though it is too warm for sustained high output and not enough for deep cold by itself.
Midweight Merino-X works as either a first layer or a light midlayer.
The hood and quarter zip expand temperature control without adding another garment.
It covers more mixed conditions than the lighter Wick or heavier Furnace.
Tradeoff: high-output warm weather calls for Wick, while long stationary cold requires more insulation.
